1. Describe the craftsmanship of your sculpture.
For the actual clay part I thought the craftsmanship was pretty good, all of the sides were smooth and no visible cracks. The painting was a little weak due to there being so many cracks and crevices and not being able to fully cover all of the spaces.
2. What was the most difficult part of this project?
The most difficult part was getting the tiniest brush and trying to fit into the crevices and cover all of it without going over the previous color.
3. Did your color choices work together harmoniously?
The color choices worked well in my opinion, they came out looking like the colors of a hamburger and what they were supposed to be. There were bright pops of colors with the cheese, lettuce, and tomato, so the sculpture didn't look like just different shades of brown.
4. Is your sculpture interesting from all views?
Yes, the aspects like how the cheese falls or where the lettuce is is different from different angles, adding dimension. Also the curve of the bacon adds to the view, whether it's from the side or the front.
5. Describe the differences in constructing a sculpture and doing something 2D.
For constructing a sculpture it is way different because you have to think about the piece from all angles and not just one angle like in 2D. You also have to create a whole mold of your piece and not just a front view. It's harder to go based off reference pictures since the pictures are 2D. It's easier to look at the actual object to get all of the angles and shapes.
6. How did you create textures in your sculpture?
I created texture in the sculpture by using the clay tools to make texture, like the lines in the tomato or in the bacon. I also added texture by curving the bacon and lettuce like it would actually be on a burger. To create texture on the top, I molded individual sesame seeds and attached them to the bun.
7. Does your sculpture look like the actual food? How did you accomplish this?
I think by sculpture does look like actual food, the proportions are pretty right, but of course there is still the obvious fact that it is clay. I accomplished this by adding texture and looking at it from different angles and making sure it added up and looked right.
8. What would you do differently if you were to do this project again?
If I were to do this again I would find a way to more evenly paint it, maybe make the separate pieces and hot glue them together at the end so each piece of the burger would be evenly painted and you wouldn't see any white spots.
