The song I based this piece off of is In Time by Kris Allen. He wrote the song after he got into a car crash and broke his wrists and had to relearn how to play guitar, which he previously used as a coping mechanism in his life. In the song he says "in time I'll learn, and in time I'll heal" showing his dedication to relearning how to cope. My idea for the piece was to have the front view of a dashboard with a person's hand on the wheel to symbolize the moment before the crash, and have a guitar shaped air freshener to show how the crash affected his ability to play. In the windshield I found words that I felt like pertained to the song like "crush" or "future". Then I did a blue acrylic wash over it to make the words look more together. Lastly I added a crack in the windshield. I really like how this piece turned out. Finding all the words were a pain, but it looks really cool. Some things I had trouble with in this piece as I do with all pieces involving acrylic, is blending. Though I felt like I improved with my blending with this piece. I had to work fast and do many layers to get the look that I wanted in the hand and in the wheel.
The song behind my third concentration piece is Man in Black by Johnny Cash. The meaning behind the song is that he wears black for the poor and for everything wrong in the world, while there is others who are happy and rich. So the basis behind the piece was that the left side symbolizes the rich and famous and overall blessed side, with images of rich items and colors. The other half is in black and white and has images from poverty and war. Over the colored side I painted the silhouette of Cash walking down, like there is on the album. On the black and white side I wrote the lyric from the song "Till things are brighter". Overall, I feel good about this piece and how it turned out. I would like to go back and add better transitions between the sides and images, but I will do that when I have more time. Some things that I feel went well in this piece was that I felt like I started to get a better grip on mixed media and have found new elements to put into my piece. Some things that I need to work on for this piece is the transitions and not having such harsh lines within the pictures.
