In-Progress Photos
1. How I created this point of view is taking a picture of the sink from a lower angle looking up, so that the faucent appeared bigger than the handles. I think it was successful because it’s not just straight forward and it’s an interesting composition. It’s not the most extreme example of foreshortening, but it works.
2. It’s important to understand perspective to draw things as they are seen from different angles, so the objects look porportioned. Its also important because it creates a more interesting composition for the piece.
3. The color pencil exercises were important because it allowed me to practice with the medium before I started my final. I had worked with Prismacolor before, but as the say practice makes perfect.
4. I put in a lot of colors into the reflection since they were there in the photos. I was hesitant at first, but it turned out fine. I used the blending pencil a lot to blend the highlights and darks into the metal appearance of the faucet. Sometime I can go overboard on the blending pencil, but I just have to remember to lay down all the color that needs to be layed down first.
5. I was able to achieve depth with the faucet being up front and the handles in the back. I could have put more darks in the sink to show more of it’s depth, but overall all the sink is pushed forward in the composition as it needs to be.
6. Some obstacles in the piece was all the colors and objects in the reflection. It felt weird to draw another little handle in the reflection, but that’s what was reflected so I had too. You normally don’t see pink or red in a sink, but with the picture I used there was. I also had trouble making the background not blend together as much as it ended up being. Some advantages was that I had drawn metal several times before, so it was easier this time around.
7. I felt like I was prepared for this project, but I have done Prisma before so I had a feel of what I was going to be jumping into. I had wished that I had been more prepared in drawing the gold accents in the faucet, as I did struggle getting those tones and that gold look to it.
