This project was fun to think about. I wasn’t originally thinking of doing the Lego idea until I went around my house thinking about what could work. Last Christmas I built the Magic Kingdom with Legos, and the back of the castle has little different rooms that’s supposed to represnt a different Disney movie. The knight one looked the best with the knight being upfront. I didn’t want to do the yellowish color in most of the background, so I changed it to pink and the brown Legos to purple, colors that look good with gray and remind of a magical castle. This project was very time consuming, and as of writing this post, is not finished. All the individual sides of each of the pieces took up the most time. Getting different values and seperating between the midtones and the lights and the darks was the hardest part. Since I am not finished, I can’t comment on how the piece looks fully yet, but so far the knight looks pretty good and the bright blue of the feather looks pretty cool. I love Legos, so doing Legos for the object is really fun for me to think about. Everything is very perportional, and if something is off, it stands out. I look forward to finishing this piece.
In Progress Photos This piece was not my favorite. It was my second acrylic piece, so I didn’t have much experience with the medium. I picked this subject because I was going around my house trying to find ordinary objects when I came across this in my room. I thought the composition came out good in the photo, so I decided to use it. The hardest part for this project was blending the values together for the cup and handles of the brushes. Since acrlyic dries so fast, I had to use a different technique to blend the colors. It was very hard to do, and still can improve. I do like how the brushes on the cup came out. I intended them to come out very strokey, so that has to be my favorite part. It was hard finishing it because I didn’t like it, so I no ambition to finish it. If I were to do it again, I would spend way more time using more midtones, and adding some highlights into the brushes. If I had time at the end of the semester, I would add more to this to make the finished piece turn out better. I defenitly will be doing future projects in oil since it’s way easier to blend the values.
This was my first time using oil paints so I had no idea what I was getting into. The picture about was using oil paints with a brush. I prefer this method than the pallette knife because I felt like I had more control and could blend more. This was my practice with using oil paints and only the pallette knife. I didn’t like it, I felt like a couldnt blend well and it used way more paint, like I felt I was wasting paint. I probably won’t do a pallette knife painting again unless I suddenly have a change of heart.
